I have scoliosis ..(if you dont know what it is its when your spine is curved really bad)...and in my case its horriable!!
i was suppose to have surgery a few years back but then my insurance ran out and im still kinda iffy about the whole surgery thing.
but my back hurts constantly.
i cant even sleep its so bad...
i know i should see a chiropractor but what is something i can do at home to help???
Answers: I had surgery for my scoliosis. The surgery went just fine and I was glad I had it. (I had a 60 degree curve.)
If you're in bed and it feels better with your knees up, you might want to try sleeping with a quilt rolled up and placed behind your knees. This makes changing positions difficult, but you should be able to make it through the night. Heat also helps. If you have someone to spoon with, it may (or may not) help a lot.
Chiropractors, message therapists, acupuncturists, etc., also can't fix structural scoliosis. These people adjust the soft, connective tissues and that may (or may not, you can't tell ahead of time) make you feel better, but remember, scoliosis is not a connective tissue disease. Your spine is growing curved.
If you now have insurance, you can see a family doctor to get a referral to a scoliosis specialist. (Doctors that are not scoliosis specialists do not have the training to treat scoliosis.)
If you can't see a scoliosis specialist, you may be able to get pain management help from either your family doctor or from a pain management doctor. They will be able to help you alot. Be sure to let them know if your pain meds aren't working. For example, if your pain is a 9 on a 1-10 scale, and your doctor is trying to get it down to a 1 or 2, but the meds you are trying only bring it down to a 6, then you need further help.
Another problem might be that the meds aren't working very long. For example, I was trying something that was supposed to work for 12 hours but it was only working for 5. I talked to my doctor and had the dosages improved.
I have scoliosis and i had the surgery 10 years ago and I think you should really get it treated. Try to sleep on your side and please don't sleep on your stomach it only puts more stress on the spine
