My sex drive has signifigantly decreased and its hurting my relationship - what can i do??

Question: last year i had an abortion and then began using birth conrtol (nuva ring) and since then i have little to no sex drive AT ALL. it is hurting my relationship, as weve been together for several years and up until now we had a great sex life and i TRY to be aroused but i cant. i dont feel like this is an emotional response to the abortion and i dont have bitter feelings about it. could this be a side effect of it or of the nuva ring? does anyone else have this problem? any solutions???
Answers: The Nuva Ring works like BC pills in that it emulates pregnancy in the body by releasing hormones. It might be that it is too strong for you and you can talk to your doctor about a different or lower dosage oral contraceptive. One of the side effects of hormone-based contraceptives is decreased sex drive. Also, if you are taking antidepressants or some other drug(s), those or some combination might be the culprit. Good luck to you.
maybe your relationship shouldn't be formed around sex. ;)

u should not be worried about it if your partner wants sex and u don't then he isn't good enough for u! ;)
Sex is a very important piece of a relationship, so don't let anyone's abstinence-related comments get you down.

Decreased sexual appetite can in fact be one of the Nuvaring side effects. It is probably not an emotional response to the abortion, as most of abortion-related blues last for a few days while the hormone is leaving your system. Just in case, you might want to seek a counseling referral if you have access and if that sounds like something you need.

How satisfied are you with the nuvaring? You could switch it up a little and try taking birth control pills. Thing is, you've got to take 'em at the same time every day and that can get annoying. The nuvaring is nice because you don't have to think about it--only once a month. I love mine.

What have you tried to get yourselves in the mood? Candles? Chocolate? Dirty talking? Toys? Baths? Footrubs? Experiment with different things to see if anything works. Sometimes music helps the mood as well. It might seem silly at first, but if you're both into it, it could be explosive! : )

Hope that helped. If you're still not satisfied, try switching your birth control to something else.

Good luck!
