Are gallbladder problems fatal??
Question: Im 24 weeks pregnant and was told I may have gallstones or a gallbladder problem but nothing can be done till after the baby is born.. I was told to stop eating fatty foods and butter and greasey foods, is that all that can be done?? can I not do a flush?? are there no meds to take?? Any suggestions would help thanks!!
Answers: Having gallbladder disease isn't as dangerous as having a cholecystectomy, as is with any surgical procedure. Your doctor may be able to explain how you can deal with the discomfort/pain of your gallbladder disease until you have your baby and the gallbladder can be removed. The gallbladder creates bile every time you swallow food and the bile mixes with the food in your stomach to help it digest better. If your gallbladder is malfunctioning, it is not creating enough juices to mix with your food, it is working extra hard to try to make the bile...this causes the discomfort/pain.
There isn't really anything you can do to flush the gallbladder to make it work better. Even after you have your baby, your doctor may want to do a KUB to see how badly your gallbladder is dysfunctioning; if it is not doing its job, he may then decide to remove it.
Stopping fatty foods may help a bit, but since your gallbladder is already dysfunctioning, the discomfort/pain will be with you no matter what you eat. Again, your doctor may be able to tell you of something to help alleviate the discomfort.
Good luck to you and congrats on the baby.
Tha really is a problem and I know that it sore but I could not imagine how sore, I have had patients that had the same problem with your, and there really is nothing you can do until you give birth and the procedure is usually done together when you give birth, but this options is decided by your doctor.
