Extreme PMS!??

Question: I have really EXTREME PMS every month. The worse symptoms are mood swings and irritability. I'm a totally different person around this time. I need something NATURAL I can take for just these symptoms. The doctor prescibed me Prozac but everyone keeps telling me not to take because of the side effects. Please help me..this is really starting to effect my relationships with people that are important to me. I would like to find something natural to use to help me.
Answers: You may have PMDD, and if so, there really isn't much hope for a natural treatment method if it's very severe.

I was dx'd with severe PMDD back in 2003. First I had a horrid case of PPD (postpartum depression) after my daughter was born in '02. I was on many meds, but once the PMDD hit, nothing helped it. It was a double whammy for me.

With PMDD, I was suicidal every month.

I finally found relief with Yaz, the birth control pill that was approved by the FDA last year to treat women with PMDD. It literally saved my life.

Don't not take the Prozac, since Prozac is widely used to treat PMDD. It may just help you. Try it, you have to give it a chance. If you don't see improvement, then talk to your gyn about Yaz.
Not everyone has side effects, you cannot base what you may or may not experience on other people's experiences.

Good luck to you.
Ask your gyno about birth control pills!

They really help!

I have been in the very same boat. After switching off birth control and getting an IUD, my hormones went crazy. Then came on the extreme PMS and moodiness, it was bad and I was in the same boat you are now. I went to my ob/gyn for help and she too prescribed an anti-depressant. Trust me, they work! It made such a huge difference....my husband has noticed a MAJOR difference! We were just boyfriend and girlfriend at the time...and after taking the anit-dep. for a few months, he proposed! haha So, if that's what your doctor is suggesting (Prozac), try it, if you don't like, can try another, the one I tried was Lexapro, I had no side effects and it helped a lot. Good Luck!

If you don't want kids for a long time, an intrauterine device is great! Being hormonal swing free is the added bonus. Good luck...
