Cronic dry eye or something??
Question: My eyes get really tired really fast. I get enough sleep, 10+ hours a night and yet my eyes always feel tired. I can't look at a computer screen or read a book for 10 minutes without having to close my eyes for a minute or 2 to reduce the tiredness. Its really annoying and it's been going on for at least 6+ months. Is there something wrong with my eyes? Its not like my body is tired; just my eyes. Would over-the-counter eye drops do anything? Thank you.
Answers: I think you might need an eye exam, as I don't think drops will help.
chronic drye eyes are mostly described this way: it feels like I have junk in my eyes, or sand. I have to blink and rub to clear my vision, after I read or stare at the computer, my eyeballs hurt.
You noted that it's been going on 6 months or so. Did the weather change? Have your medications changed? Many pain pills, muscle relaxers and pseudophedrine products dry the eyes.
the treatment is this: take a warm washcloth and soak the lids, (you may micowave a wet cloth for 10 secs) soak and scrub the lashes at the same time. this will unclog the oil which is necessary to keep the tears on the eyes. Use artificial tears throught the day, see if it helps. If it does, you can buy over the counter, use them throughout the day
You probably need glasses. Before spending money on an eye exam, try getting some over-the-counter reading glasses and see if they help. If not, see an optometrist.
