Should I start wearing Glasses for Astigmatism of 1+ in my left eye ? I do not feel any handicap.??
Question: I use reading glasses though. Will the power increase if I do not use Glasses?
Answers: I am a little unsure of your question here:
Astigmatism is not what causes you to need reading glasses. When you need reading glasses, its a problem with crystalline lens not being able to focus up close. Its an age-related problem usually and is called presbyopia. People who could once read and see far away with their glasses on, find that they either need to take their glasses off to read, OR the need to hold their reading material further away from their face in order to read. This is why multifocals are nice - because you can read and see far away all without taking your glasses off and without having someone hold your reading material half way across the room for you to read...
The astigmatism you speak of is a irregular shaped cornea. Its shaped more like a football, than like a basketball and most people usually have some astigmatism and its like any other refractive error in that it will most likely worsen as you get older. Astigmatism can cause blurriness at all distances, far away and up close. And wearing or not wearing glasses will NOT affect the rate at which the astigmatism progresses. It will progress on its own time table. In some people, it progresses faster than in others.
So, I hope that answers your question...even though I didn't really understand your question...LOL
the glasses will help keep the astignatism from getting worse if you do not wear glasses for it it will just get worse
Yes, If you will not use glasses, although you may not feel, but your eyes will feel stressed, thereby further complicating the problem.
