Why do my contacts have this whitish debris on it??
Question: My contacts have this whitish stuff on them that kind of looks like debris or something but it won't come off when I try to rinse it with solution or let it soak over night. The white debris is just towards the inner part of the contacts but not in the middle where the pupil sees out of.
I've noticed it 3 days ago, and my vision seems fine except sometimes my right eye gets slighty blurry. Both contacts have the white stuff but only my right eye is affected, though barely.
I'm assuming I should just change them to be safe, but does anyone know what the white stuff is and why it won't come off?

I've been wearing acuve hydroclear lenses for astigmatism since early November.
They are 2 month contacts but one of them ripped so I had to change them in December.
I clean my contacts every day and rinse them with solution whenever I take them off.

Answers: This could be one of a couple things. It's most likely a protein build up. You should either change your contacts (and throw the ones you're wearing out) or take your contacts to your optometrist. They can clean the protein build up off.
As for the blurry vision- that could be a result of a scratched cornea. The protein could have scratched the surface of the eye. These scratches may have gotten infected, which could cause swelling of the eye- causing the blurred vision. I've had this happen to me. You will want to see your eye doctor just to make sure you do not have an infection. Left untreated, they can cause permament damage. I would put a real hurry on it if your eyes are producing any kind of mucous that they normally don't.

I believe it is a protein build-up that comes from the contact either being in the eye too long or not being cleaned well enough. However, since we both have the same cleaning regimen, I'm not sure why it would be there.
i've been wearing contacts for~30 years, now wear disposable extended wear. i must admit my laziness in taking them out&cleaning them, you are great! My experience is that some stuff doesn't clean off because the contact lens absorb the oils. If you use lotion or makeup around your eyes they easily disperse into you eyes. When i cry i have to take out my lenses and clean them, just because of whatever my tears are made of. I don't usually wear eye makeup, but if you do make sure it is a special type safe for contacts. Also, keep your hands clean especially before you touch your eyes. Hand lotion feels nice on my hands but i quit using it as much 'cuz if some wind blown speck of whatever all of a sudden gets in my eye my first reaction is to get it out with my finger. I have never had the problem you are having, make sure your hands are freshly cleaned(don't dry them) and saturate them with saline solution. It is amazing the harm miniscule particulate matter can do to contact lenses. It kinda sounds like your type of contact lenses just might suck; you take very good care of them.
You have build up on your contacts. You need to make sure that you get a solution that gets rid of calcium buildup. Get a no rub solution that takes care of the bacteria.
