Blepharitis??
Question: This morning I went for my yearly eye appointment. After the optometrist had finished thoroughly inspecting my eyes, he said I had crusty flakes around my eye lashes and said I was prone to a condition called Blepharitis, and that i should wash my eyes with warm water for 5-10 minutes twice a day. But my question is, is Blepharitus a serious condition? I'm very worried because i've never had anyone tell me I had or was prone to a condition. I googled it and saw some very disturbing images... can anyone provide any information about this? I'm age 13, if that helps...
Answers: Blepharitis is a very common, not alarming condition. It's somewhat similar to dandruff, but on your lids. I'm hoping that in the eye wash, he reccommended using a dilute baby shampoo mixture(1/2 baby shampoo, 1/2 clean bottled water) to do the washing followed by installation of 2-3 drops of artifical tears.
In addition, if it continues to get worse your doctor can prescribe you a topical antibiotic because sometimes it can be caused by the bacteria staphococcal aureus, but even then it is not serious.
do not worry, it doesn't mean you are not clean. like i said, it's like dandruff for the lids/lashes. just following the cleaning regimine and you'll be fine.
I have it and the OD told me that it's harmless but incurable. I wouldn't worry about it. you always see the worst cases on the internet for stuff like that.
Larry d is correct when he says it's incurable. It's more of a nuisance and it can be controlled easily. Take proper care of your eyes by following the doctors instructions. What you have seen on the Internet may be gross but those are extreme cases, ones that have not been properly treated or ignored and possibly mis-diagnosed.
