My 6 year old son seen the CASE of one of my scary movies (Boogeyman). I keep these movies up high because??

Question: I don't want him accidently watching them. My 16 year old had this movie out one day and he thought it would be cool to trace the cover (the hand coming out of the closet). Well he left it on the table and my little one seen it. I seen by his expression that he was really scared by seeing this. I took it from him and put it away. Ever since, about 3 weeks now, my son has been so scared that he won't even go to the bathroom by himself. He has to have all the lights on and if I ask him to get something from his room, he runs in there and runs right back out. Now remember, all of this came from seeing the case, not seeing ANY part of the movie. Do you have any advice for me to ease his fear? Did you see something when you were a kid that frightened you and you just had a hard time forgetting it? What, if anything, helped you to get past that fear? Thank you for your mature answers.
Answers: It happened to me too and I eventually got over it. Once he realizes that it was just a pic and nothing ever happens to him he'll be fine too. I wouldn't worry. Just ease his fears by reassuring him that it was just a pic someone drew and it's not real. Maybe ask him to draw you pictures of pumpkins or ghosts so you can hang them up for Halloween (if you're in the States) that way he understands that it's something he made and it's not real just like the other pic he saw
Have you explained to him that it is fake? It is unusual for him to be that scared just by looking at a picture.I wonder if your 16 year old has been teasing your 6 year old and making the situation worse.
Did you try to explain to your son that the picture and what is in that movie is FAKE! Explain to him that it is make-up and props. That those things are not real that is is for entertainment!
Try to make light of it. Try to make a game out of it where you're also being frightened by something similar, but make it fun. Explain to him how harmless it is. Lie about what the picture is really about.

When I was 6 I watched a scene from Nightmare on Elm Street, and I was scared for a long time. Don't worry he'll grow out of it, like I did. But the best way for him to forget about it is for you to let him watch cartoons and play video games. Thats how I forgot about Freddy.
Just tell him its only a movie and that there are no such thing as monsters.
At his age it is pretty natural to feel like that . He might never even dare to watch the movie , but as time progress , he will soon understand that its just movie etc...of course you can tell him its just a movie and nothing more. I suggest you take it in good humor than worry too much . My cousin was like that he was too scared of water for instance and slowly he has overcome this issue.
I'm sorry I can't entirely relate to him. The only time I was in a similar situation it turns out my step father was slipping drugs in to make me go mentally ill (he did that to my mom and his friends,.. he thought it was funny).

Were it he had watched the movie, I would have suggested a route to show him it's just actors and they didn't hurt each other but think it's fun to play with ketch up then get tired cleaning it up XD It's true and for some people how they get those tired heavy breathing scenes more easily.

But, since it's just the cover,.. and I have no clue what it looks like past your description,.. I am guessing it is just Artwork. If it is just Artwork,.. it should be easy to show that in various ways. Maybe try just haveing him do like his brother did and trace it. Tell him there are some very good artist that make this artwork,.. tell him they are talented,.. maybe things will wander on with What's Talented . Tell him it's just made out of paint or on the computer. Have him play with paint the next day or the same day,.. soft liquidy paint,.. not hard paint you add water to. If it's on the computer, open your Computers Art program. On Windows the Art Program is called Paint [ Start_Programs_Accessories_Paint] and have him try to make something with it.

If it is a person in make up then tell him he can be like that and find an event to go to (since it's Halloween). Get him a rubber mask and body paint. Tell him the people that put make up on the man on the cover are much better at it then you, so they get paid lots and lots of money. But just like what he is wearing, everything on the man is rubber or make up. Tell him they just like Halloween so much they don't mind being scary looking like that. You might even be able to look up the Actor on http://www.imdb.com to show what the man really looks like and that he is a father as well. Tell him people have weird things they like to be when they play Dress Up. Ask him what he would like to be when he plays Dress Up. Maybe you will get some Halloween Costume out of this XD

The most helpful thing is to physically feel what was used to create something like that. It's soft, smooth, and harmless to the touch.

The Boogeyman isn't real (not the ones in those horror movies). Mostly Boogeyman is just a person that kidnaps infants/babies. Some times people had a mental condition or times were bad so they would do this in a bad manner or many times. It's kinda like that story where the women came before the King pleading they were both the Mother of a Baby. Foster/Adopted Parents could count as Boogeymen by some stretch of understanding.
