Question: Zyprexia has been prescribed for my Father who has dementia. I have asked to have him put on a generic of this drug and I have been told there are no generics???

Answers: From what I can find olanzapine is the generic for Zyprexa, but it's not available as a generic yet because the Zyprexa patent doesn't run out until 2011.

Olanzapine is generic for zyprexia. i agree with u that it is very expensive, i had to stop taking it because of the cost. i don't think that there is any generic for this that is any cheaper. i really wish u luck with ur father and i really hope that ur dr. wll come up with some medication that will help him

the drug in zyprexia is olanzapine but the zyprexia is in the form of a velotab (which instandly disolves on the tongue). Olanzapine is available as a generic but only in tablet form (taken with water), not velotab.
