Is too much daydreaming a mental disorder ??

Question: Hello

I have a tendency to daydream for hours on end, wasting a lot of time when I should be working or socializing. I seem to enjoy daydreaming rather than going out there in the 'real world'
I am a social misfit and have a problem making new friends although people who are friends with like me !!

Could this be a mental diagnosis ? What it the probable Differential diagnosis.
Answers: Daydreaming for me was a SYMPTOM of my mental state. I now know that I was doing it as it was a more comfortable place than reality. When you daydream there's no effort required and you can go anywhere you want.

If daydreaming is taking you to a better more comfortable place then you need to look at what it is in your life that you would rather avoid. Then ask your self honestly WHY you would prefer to avoid it. Some of us deal with our problems this way, not intentionally but subconsciously and it does work, but it can be very isolating and it doesn't really teach you how to face stuff you'd rather not.

Daydreaming is rather like going back to bed!

Hope this helps.
You don't sound depressed to me....Sounds more like boredom or not doing what you really want to be doing....Just because someone is not totally happy does not make them depressed.

I wouldn't personally get into the whole mental diagnosis ....your fine....you might just want to look at what does make you happy or what you are thinking about and try and work towards accomplishing that :)
could be a number of things, being antisocial leads to depression or this is a long stretch A.D.D
no thats not a mental disorder. you just have a very healthy active imagination. you are probabley vey creative too. maybe you should try to find a job were you can use it.
IF THATS THE CASE THAN I GUESS IAM SUFFERING FROM MENTAL DISORDERS ALSO.

It's called not really living ....
No, it's not a mental disorder. You do sound as if you could be depressed though. Daydreaming (just sitting about and drifting off in thoughts) can be a sign of depression. You can take one of those tests on the web to figure out if you are indeed depressed. Then you can ask your doctor if he/she can prescribe you something, just for three months, to get you out of that dip.

I did just that and it helped.
This sounds like you are lonely and depressed ....
