I think I may have borderline personality disorder.??
Question: I think for the first time I've finally found what the problem is with me, I've had anxiety and depression for 8 years now but always felt like neither of those diagnosis fit the bill for me. A few weeks ago I was killing time and filled one of those mental health questionairs and the results came back that I may be suffering from BPD, I didn't think much of it at the time. Today I decided to look it up and couldn't believe how many of the symptoms I have, from what I read it's not easily treatable which explains why none of the treatment options I've tried for Anxiety and Depression have worked for me.
I'm interested to hear from other people who suffer from this and where to get the best information on the subject.
Answers: Many times people will find they meet the criteria of a wide variety of both medical and emotional problems. Basically, if you look hard enough for a diagnosis, you will probably find it. They key is to get the right doctor to assist in making the CORRECT diagnosis. Are you seeing a mental health clinician now? Talk to him/her. Since they already know you, that would be the best place to get good information. If you're not seeing anyone for current mental health questions, start with your MD and ask to be referred to a good clinician about your concerns.
Best of luck!!
BPD is one of the most difficult mental illnesses to diagnose becaus the symptoms are not consistant they vary day to day and sometimes hour to hour
Start to keep a journal everyday during the day of how you are feeling and why, also bring the survey to a mental health specialist. They'll point you in the right direction.....Good Luck
I've been having the same problems for about the same amount of time. I recently started going to a psychologist who has diagnosed me with BPD. I have my first psychiatrist appt tomorrow to hopefully get some medicine to help me along with the psychologist...I'll let you know what happens and fill you in on any good info I hope to get.
Usually those with BPD are never willing to do the self reflection that you have engaged in here. If you are ready to accept this diagnosis - it's probably not accurate.
I was diagnosed with BPD 3 years ago and with the right formula of medication and weekly Dialektical Behavior Therapy, I manage my life pretty well.
I'm prescribed:
Prozac (for depression)
Campral and Lyrica (for anxiety)
Abilify (for schizophrenia)
and Geodon (basically for sleep)
The hardest part is to not be so impulsive and to use my wise mind instead of my emotional mind when making important choices.
