I went to the Doctor today??
Question: After alot of reading I disagree with my Doctor on some of my diagnosis. Is this common? I believe I have underlying schizophrenia and that is what I am suffering from... I believe he is not fully listening to me. I have not been disagnosed with schizophrenia but I have mentioned it to my doctor. So far I have only been diagnosed for treatment relating to OCD/Anxiety
Here is a break down of my problems issues:
- counting in patterns when walking/going up stairs.
- avoiding marks or cracks in the pavement/road
- compulsive biting of my knuckles known as dermatillomania
- auditory hilucinations
- fear of new enviornment / embarassing situations
- disorganised thinking/speech
- fear of people -- believe they are judging/looking
- disturbing thoughts -- sexual / extremely violent
- can feel things that are not there
- fear of falling --- i would avoid a particular situation that could mean i could fall and these thoughts bring on panic attacks
I can go on and on...
Answers: You sound far too self-aware to be schizophrenic - this is not a condition that sufferers are ever able to diagnose themselves.
Sounds like a classic, severe anxiety and OCD.
This is what you do. Print out what you just posted in regards to problem issues. Seek another doctor for a second opinion. Show him this list. Keep quiet about what the other doctor said. Let this doctor see you with fresh eyes. This is what I would do.
I started to say, Sounds like a typical psychic teenager to me ...but I see you're older. Ask your dr. if you can try risperdal..half mg. It helps me. And if you have visions...turn away from them. And if you hear voices..tell them to shut up. Don't make yourself mentally iller by thinking you have all these mental problems. Part of it is just about being human . You actually might have a spirit bothering you. Maybe you should investigate that first before you go on meds. People will tell you there's no such thing as a spirit...but that's because they haven't had to deal with one. I haven't seen a real UFO...but from what I've seen on tv and internet and books and news...I believe they exist..even tho I haven't seen one and hope to never see one. But just in case...I'm trying to remember those words Michael Reine said to his robot.. Gort..klatu berrada nicktu ..or something like that. LOL
Sounds partly like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Also possibly Aspergers Syndrome, easily found with an internet search.
I can understand why you'd be worried that you have schizophrenia as some of your symptoms are commonly associated with that illness but the thing to remember is these symptoms aren't exclusive to schizophrenia. I'm not a dr or anything but OCD/anxiety would have been my guess too from your list of symptoms. For now I'd try to have faith in your dr but remember you can always bring up any concerns you have with them, so don't be afraid to share your fears with them.
daym i must have it 2
Schizophrenia is not a neurotic but psychotic disorder. People affected with psychotic disorders lose their sense of cognition thus do not accept that they are ill. Trust me i'm a mental health nurse, worked for long enough in acute wards, dealing with both psychotic and neurotic patients.
You disagree with your doctor's assessment and should really see a psychiatrist! You should also have access to a CPN who will be able to listen to you and assess you at the same time.
You say your doctor is not really listening to you but maybe he/She is and you are not taking it all in.
I think you should ask for referral to a psychiatrist and take it from there.
Best wishes
This sounds like classic ocd/anxiety (I have an anxiety disorder and have a good friend with OCD)
It is definatly OCD, got to wikipedia and look at OCD.
That doesn't sound like schitzophrenia.
You obviously have a psychosis of some description which needs expert evaluation and treatment.
Go back to your GP and ask him/her to refer you to a psychiatrist - you have the right to ask for referral.
I dont think prozac will help, probably make things worse.
If I was your doctor I would refer you to a psych' and if your symptoms are really affecting you put you on Olanzapine at a low dose to control your thoughts.
If you feel that you are out of control, go to A&E.
You have a mind like a Swiss watch.
If you ever redirected your focus outward into the world,
You would be a force to be reckoned with.
