My autistic daughter is obessed with flushing the toilet. what can i do to stop this behavior??
Answers: I have an autistic daughter too. She is nine and is fascinated with things in the bathroom. Lately her new trick is to take items from within the bathroom and flushing them down the toilet. We have had to use a plumber to fix the problem. The only solution for us is to actually accompany her to the bathroom to insure that she doesn't cause any major problems. We have to watch her while bathing as well, since she has discovered razors and shaving cream.

you can try removing the handle and just have an adult flush it when needed
Shut the door or just put a bolt lock or hook and eye on the door on the outside up high enough where she cant get to it.
Just turn off the shut off valve.
turn the water off to the toilet so it can,t flush she will soon loose the fascination for it if its not flushing .... you will need to turn it back on to flush after its used but then turn it off again
It gets better. When my son was two or three we had an eye hook on the door like the answer above . . . He is five now and is still obsessed with plumbing but will stop if we ask him . . .
