My mother has been diagnosed with mild dementia,what is the best medication??
Question: my mother is on so many anti depressants treating her for bipolar and manic depression,although she was diagonised with mild dementia.She has had pyscotic episodes, could they be caused by dementia, and what is the best treatment for dementia.
Answers: When my father-in-law had dementia from Alzheimers he was put on Aricept and I believe it did slow down the dementia. He was also on anti-depressives because the dementia can cause them to become combative and aggressive over very trivial things. Their personalities change completely which can be very hard on family members. Talk to her doctors and find a support group if you need to talk it over with someone. Good luck and remember to be patient with her.
Only a dr. who knows your mom can correctly prescribe meds that might work for her-everybody's different.
why are you asking on the internet where few people know your mother, let alone are qualified physicians.....God Bless and go talk to her doctors...
the only advice i can give is to be as patient and loving as is possible.
if she believes what she is telling you dont argue, whats the point you wont win because they really do believe what they are saying is the truth. its going to be hard I know because ive just been their with a relative who had alzeimers.

It sounds like your mom's situation is quite complicated. My mother was in a similar situation for years before she passed away. She didn't take a great deal for the dementia but she did take haldol which helped her (and us) a great deal.
My best advice would be to listen to what her docs say because dementia is caused by different things and so the treatment might be different.
