Do i need to be circumcised??
Question: for a while now i have been getting repeated infections down there, i have not had these looked at by a doctor as i am very self conscious. i have been on a web page and read up on my symptoms foresikin gets trapped in groove and wont go back without alot of manipulation, it states this is called paraphimosis although i cannot diagnose this as i am not a doctor and dont know what it could be.
also at first i thought it was thrush but it cannot be that as my wife has not caught it (she does go to the doc regulalry), plus i have treated for thrush but still hasnt gone away. when it does become infected the end of my foreskin becomes extremely tight, swollen and sore. any help or advice and opinions on cirumcision would be appreciated thanks
Answers: Alright, so you probably don't need to be circumcised as it's rarely medically necessary. There are clearly a couple things going on here.
The first thing are the infections. If you don't have a discharge from your penis (like something pus-like that oozes out every now and then) then it might just be recurrent irritation rather than an infection. There's a few things you could try to see if it clears up or improves.
First you should know that over-zealous hygiene is almost as bad as poor hygiene. Washing the area once a day is enough. If your foreskin doesn't move back, then washing the outside without retracting it is okay for the moment. Be sure to use a mild and preferably scentless soap, as strong or scented soaps can irritate the area and make it red, sore, and swollen. While you say it's not thrush, it's not a bad idea to eat yogurt a couple times a day and drink some cranberry juice, just to be sure. These tend to reduce and even help treat thrush and urinary tract infections. Oh, and be sure to gently and thoroughly dry the area after a shower with a clean towel.
Now, the tight foreskin. If you're not able to pull the foreskin back over the glans (penis head) after you've pulled it back, then you have paraphimosis. By extension, you also have phimosis. Both of these conditions can be treated and cured rather easily without circumcision. Paraphimosis and phimosis are treated the same.
The first thing you should try are something called stretching exercises. See link 1 for good and detailed instructions on what to do. You should do those exercises for a few minutes each day for a few weeks to a month, preferably right after a shower/bath when the skin's most flexible.
If that doesn't seem to work after a month or so, then you can ask a doctor for certain prescription creams that'll help loosen the foreskin. In one study, these creams are the most cost-effective treatment a doctor can provide (link 2, names of creams in one of the tables). Be aware that it may take a month or more to get the full effect from the cream(s), but if you combine it with the stretching exercises, it tends to work a bit faster.
In almost all cases of phimosis/paraphimosis the above treatments (or a combination of the two) are all that's necessary. Very rarely will circumcision be needed, so if you don't want that then don't have it done. Thus you should ignore any comments/opinions that urge you to get circumcised as the first/only treatment, because that's almost certainly overkill. There are also other surgical procedures that are cheaper, remove little/no foreskin, are less painful, and have a quicker recovery time (link 3). See the remaining links for more info.
So first things first. First try to get rid of your current infection. Then when that's cleared up, use that window of time to cure your phimosis/paraphimosis. When that's cured, you should have no further problems with infections. Good luck with whatever you try.
there is only one thing to do... call Dr. Phil!!! He knows everything
Best to build up courage and go to the doctor. He/she will be the only one who can tell you for sure if you have an infection or not and take the appropriate action.
As for circumcision, that is a personal choice. Speaking as a woman, I prefer the look of a man who has been circumcised. It is a lot cleaner and a lot more sensitive for the man, at least that's what they tell me.
You won't go to a doctor about a medical issue but you will let the world read about it? From what I have read and what I have heard my father tell my brother (both uncircumcised), serious infections can occur if you don't keep it well cleaned. I'm not saying that you don't but I'm a girl and actually have no clue. If I were you I would go to the doctor now before you get yourself into a more serious situation. It would be much better to use an ointment than to have that done at your age. I can't even imagine the pain.
I know its embarassing but why not got to a sexual health clinic they'll point you in the right direction.........
no punn intended :)
Dude, you need to see a doctor. You get a bad infection they may have to cut off your lil dink dink. That would really be embarassing.
Definitely go to the doctor. Don't let him just listen to your problems and go oh you need circumcised doctors like to do that. Make sure he tells you all of your treatment options rather than just telling you its time to cut off part of your body.
Do you mean phimosis? Because fixing that would prevent infections.
Paraphimosis is when a tight foreskin gets stuck behind the head, leaving the head bare (like if it were circumcised).
The fact that your foreskin becomes tight and swollen almost makes it sound like an allergic reaction to something. You don't use any lubricants that would irritate you down there, do you? If so, try to stop using them and see if it stops.
Now, do you have a tight foreskin? If so, a tight foreskin would make it harder to keep your area clean. But if you fixed the tight foreskin, the infections would stop. If you have a tight foreskin, just stretch the foreskin gently when you shower for a minute. Wash under the foreskin, too. That'll encourage it to stretch and separate from the head. After it becomes loose all you have to do is take 5 to 10 seconds to pull back the skin and wash when you shower. I went through the tight foreskin thing, so I speak from experience (e-mail me from my profile if you need more info)
If you're looking for research, studies, and statistics on circumcision, here's some help. They really both have pros and cons. If you're cut or uncut and satisfied, you'll say that side is better. If you got cut later in life, you'll say cut because you had problems with your foreskin before. If you're cut and had something go wrong, then you'll say uncut. However, a survey at the Jackinworld masturbation site found that uncircumcised guys are a little more satisfied (by a few percentage points, not much). However, the big difference that comes in was in another survey, half of circumcised guys responded that they would have liked a say over being circumcised or not, so that may explain dropping newborn circumcision.
Here's some more information, and I'll mention the surveys and link them below.Circumcision is a traditionally Jewish and Muslim procedure, although it was introduced and encouraged to the Western, developed world as a way to stop masturbation, especially with the help of Dr. Kellogg. (see link 1) However, although scientific studies have discovered that circumcision harms masturbation by up to over 60% (2), needless to say, it doesn’t completely stop masturbation. Many circumcised guys find it more convenient to use a commercial lubricant as a result (3) since the typically moist foreskin that is like the eyelids is not present to rub the glans with (4).
Most developed nations quickly rejected circumcision after noticing its ineffectiveness against masturbation, and as a result the United States remains the last developed nation doing it to a significant percentage of newborns. (5) This was done as a result of the for-profit American health care system promoting myths about benefits of circumcision (6), such preventing penile cancer (6a, 6b), preventing HIV (6c, 6d) despite the USA being the developed nation with the highest HIV rates and circumcision rates (6e, 5), and preventing STDs (6d, 6f). As a result, circumcision is now brings in hundreds of millions of dollars to doctors and the American health system. (7)
However, circumcision has been becoming less popular as years have passed by. In the 1960s over 90% of guys were circumcised in the USA, now circumcision rates are as low as 14% in some states. (8) More and more parents are discovering that circumcision carries more risks than benefits, and realize that by leaving their sons uncircumcised, they have the choice of choosing what they’d like, since the surgery is irreversible.
Circumcision risks include the loss of sexual pleasure according to multiple studies (2, 9, 10, 11). Those studies take into effect many sensation points, including the foreskin, and they involve many participants. There have been other studies that claim no difference, but they don’t even take into effect the nerve endings on the foreskin, which as seen in one study, are some of the most sensitive points on the penis (10). One study even found an increase in erectile dysfunction rates after circumcision (10a). In another study, it was found that females ended up reaching orgasm with and preferring uncircumcised males in 9 out of 10 cases (10b). In addition, circumcision is extremely painful on newborns (12, 13, 14), and you risk many bad conditions, such as a buried penis when too much foreskin is removed and limits the size of the penis (15), or adhesions or skin bridges that develop from the head to the shaft when the skin heals after the surgery (16), meatal stenosis [occurs in up to 10% of circumcised males!] when the opening of the penis becomes irritated from too much exposure and rubbing and begins to close up (17), and meatal ulcers (18). All those risks are, of course, not including the possibility of having too much skin removed, which can cause discomfort during erections due to lack of skin to allow the penis to expand, and could consequently cause a hairy penis by pulling pubic hair and skin to the shaft. Often a circumcision scar develops around the penis after circumcision. In addition, circumcision has negative effects on breastfeeding. (18)
To conclude, here is a link that describes the anatomy of the foreskin (19) and the development of the foreskin with infants, a link especially helpful for parents (19a). Ultimately, one survey found that although uncircumcised guys are a bit more satisfied percentage-wise, it’s within the margin of error. (20) The only difference is that those unsatisfied uncircumcised guys can simply get circumcised and end up satisfied either way. In addition, in one survey it was found that up to half of circumcised guys expressed concerns on wishing to have had the choice themselves. (21) That, along with the risks and negative effects that are being seen more with the help of the Internet, may be what is bringing down circumcision rates.

You know-you might be allergic to something-have heard that some males-and females can be allergic to eachother's juices . I worked Medical in the Army and heard of only only case but if you are really keeping clean-you need to suck it up and see if your Doc knows of this and have a dermatologist test you.
I RARELY say get cut, but hey, if all else fails-I'd have to join in with all the cuts that think they know how uncut is. But I'd really exhaust all the possibilities. Would be terrible to be shy and get your skin looped off and then find it was very treatable.
I 'd get allergy tests and really check it all out. WE ARE ANIMALS-docs see genitalia ALL THE TIME! Get in there and stop asking us amateurs
go to a doctor and ask him.
I don't know if you need to be circumsized but you definitely should go to see a doctor. Yes it can be embarassing but it is something you will have to get over. I'm sure your doctor has seen all sorts of penile infirmities and yours isn't going to be very different. Maybe after an examination he might recommend circumsizon but then maybe he will just write out a script for some ointment??????
It is probably because you can't clean it as well as you could because of the paraphimosis. The only way you will sort it is by going to a doctor - circumcision is probably a bit drastic, there are other ways. If you look online there are instructions on how you can stretch your foreskin gradually, but with the infection you probably need to see a doctor asap. Your foreskin should roll back and forth easily. My boyfriend had a problem with his frenulum when he was younger - it was too tight and it ripped when he first had sex - going to a doctor really isn't that bad - it is worth it, rather than the pain, surely? I don't know why so many men avoid going when it is something to with their penis. Women have to put up with it all the time. Ask what different options you have.
Sheeez....so get circumsised!!Choose your dr. carefully....don't use one that works for tips!
hell no dude rock out with you circum out...
This is nothing to do with hygiene etc, so ignore those who say it is.
It is a very embarrassing issue with physical and emotional affect. Your doctor will be the best person to discuss this with, and I am sure your wife wont mind accompanying you.
Dont worry about what others think, what the 'research' says, what the statistics are, your concern is for yourself. Circumcision may not be required, but you do need to get a proper diagnosis and advice. Best of luck.
If you are already consulting your doctor , has he not suggested circumcision ??
I believe there is another process short of circumcising which can relieve this issue and I suggest that you see you doctor again and ask him about this
Instead of advice here you need to go see a urologist. Forget about your modesty and go. Trust me he has seen it all and yours is nothing new. It might be something that meds will cure but if not, he/she can give you options before going under the knife.
do whatever you want, girls wont want you for that, unless they want kids, then you're screwed.
ok so why not try washing it more offen fool and pull the skin back and leave it and if you wash your self right it wouldnt happen... either that or the last ho you was with have you something and a doctor is a good place for you to be... now if you like pain some like getting kick in the nuts or just put your finger in boiling oil sure yes by all means go get it cut.... but it would be better if you wash it better
ask a doctor or multiple doctors to get a concesensus
You need to make sure you pull the forskin back daily, you can use some lube to make it more comfortable. I wold go to the doctor to get some antibiotics it may very well be infected. you need to make sure you do this daily. Such as when you go to urinate. Getting circumsized does prevent infection. but one doesn't have too if it's properly taken care of.
Good luck

I would speak to your doctor before you make a decision about circumsision. It may simply be that the original infection simply didn't go away, and so it keeps coming and going etc.
The doctor could possibly prescribe medication that will get rid of it once and for all. Really you shouldn't be embarrassed, as what would be more embarassing would be having to get the whole thing removed!
Getting circumsized is a really big thing, and something that will always spark debate. Having a foreskin, providing you clean under there whenever you shower, should not cause any more infections.
Seriously, just speak to the doc, and get the infection treated properly.
if this is an on going thing 4 u then yes get the circumcision its much cleaner safer and you will not have so many infections and please see a doctor dont u care about your self?
Paraphimosis is when your foreskin is trapped behind your glands (head of penis) and phimosis is when your foreskin covers your glands and you're unable to retract it to clean under the skin. The best treatment for both conditions is circumcision and the only way you're going to get that is if you go to a urologist and have him explain to you the procedure, good luck!!
