Am I suffer from OCD????
Question: This symptoms started about 5 years ago where I always worrying about cleanliness and bacteria. since then I always wash my hands around 20 times or more a day, for example never want to touch door handles, door lock, flushing button, tab water at public toilets I try to use tissues every time I go and still washing my hands all the time. if I came home from outside straight away change my clothes to lounge wear and wash my hand and my feet, if I cook food always washing things again and again. always notice when people around me picking up their nose, sneezing, or doing something that I think is dirty and try to stay away from them. Bacteria is always in my head and worry if I catch it especially now I have a one year old baby at first I never let him touch the ground outside the house but recently I try to let him explore what ever he wants to do eventhough still I keep washing or wiping his hands with alcohol tissues. Do you think I have OCD?is this normal?anyone has same problem?
Answers: Yes...I get that too. What I found helps is to rationalize with yourself. Sure, bacteria can get through, but our bodies are designed to fight them assuming we have a normal immune system. In fact, our bodies should be getting 'exercise' in fighting bacteria to develop an even stronger immune system. If we sterilize everything, it could get weaker. A little bit of bacteria getting through is OK. Not sure if this is related, but sometimes having a slobbering dog around will help the child NOT to develop allergies. It's okay to be cautious about what we touch in public...using a tissue or immediately cleaning with anti-bacterial gel is normal social behavior now....just try not to do it 5x.
yes, this is OCD
but don't worry! i have OCD as well... and so does nahgurl:D
if you feel it is upsetting your life, go to a doctor and get meds.
but.... if you aren't THAT bothered by it.... just learn to live with it!
good luck! :]
it sounds a bit like your a germaphobe(sp?)
Definitely OCD. You need to seek professional help. First call your Doc to discuss this. Have him/her refer you to a psychologist and perhaps, even, a psychiatrist. This is not a normal way to be living your life. Sometimes, there can be an underlying cause that triggered the OCD. Believe it or not, their are alot of people who suffer the same as you. I hope that this helps and Good Luck.
I think you have OCD. In a sense it's not normal, because you are enduring obsessive, distressing, intrusive thoughts and related compulsions (from wikipedia). And behavioral specialist regard this as a form of Anxiety (don't mean to scare you). To be diagnosed with OCD, one must have either obsessions or compulsions that fits the DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria.
DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria:
1. Recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause marked anxiety or distress.
2. The thoughts, impulses, or images are not simply excessive worries about real-life problems.
3. The person attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, impulses, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action.
4. The person recognizes that the obsessional thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of his or her own mind, and are not based in reality.
5. The tendency to haggle over small details that the viewer is unable to fix or change in any way. This begins a mental pre-occupation with that which is inevitable.
In addition to these criteria, at some point during the course of the disorder, the sufferer must realize that his/her obsessions or compulsions are unreasonable or excessive.
Today the community of scientists studying obsessive-compulsive disorder has been split into two factions by a bitter feud over the exact cause of the illness. On one side is a group who believe that obsessive-compulsive behavior is a psychological disorder. On the other side are scientists who believe that obsessive-compulsive behavior is caused by abnormalities in the brain. Better consult your doctor about this, for him to make the right diagnosis, i'm no specialist regarding this matter, so don't rely solely on the info i gave you. And It is listed by the World Health Organization as one of the top 10 most disabling illnesses in terms of lost income and diminished quality of life, so its better to be safe than sorry in the end. Best of luck, i hope ive been a good help.
my daughter has this problem, it is driving her and those around her insane, get help now, there is medicine for this, just make sure you take the meds................some days i dont know how my daughter survives
This sounds like OCD to me.
-What you should do is get help from a professional as soon as you can so it doesn't get any worse than it is. Remember that it is an anxiety disorder and talking with a professional may help you to get to the root of the problem.

I have two answers for you.
My first is that, if you're trully concerned, you see a psychologist. Chances are, they'll tell you that you're OCD. its not uncommon, and its nothing to be worried or embarassed about. And don't feel weird about seeing a psychologist either - I work with them (I'm a secretary at Psychological and Behavioral Consultants), and seeing one doesn't mean that your crazy or anything, so don't let people get to you about it.
My second piece of advice is more true to my heart. Personally, i think OCD is a load of crap. I think if i got tested for it, i would be diagnosed with it, also. Being obsessive and compulsive does NOT mean you have a dissorder, it just means you're wise, like order, and don't like germs, and there's nothing wrong with that. Unless you think that your behavior is a true problem that may cause harm to yourself or others, even if that harm is just time wasted washing your hands and such, I wouldn't worry. But if you think its serious, then sure, see a doctor, if only for the advice. I advise a psychologist, not a psychiatrist, which means that they won't be shoving unnecessary medications down your throat, they'll only be there to help you mentally. Good luck.
i'd say yes you do, go see a therapist and sort out the issues that you will not be able to tackle yourself
Sounds like a compulsory behavior of some sort. Talk to a mental health professional, and try to get a grip on this. I know of a woman that has worn out her kitchen floor covering by scrubbing it 4-5 times daily. You're not alone; many people have this disorder.
