It certainly is because of the lycopene content. To be most beneficial you need to consume cooked tomato as in tomato soup and hot pasta with cooked tomato in it. Raw tomato or raw tomato juice is not as good as cooked tomato because the lycopene content is much higher in cooked tomato. The more cooked tomato you consume the better.
