Bizarre symptoms, could this still be MS??
Question: My mother is very ill. Doctors believe she has MS. They will still not make a formal diagnosis, because she does not have all the symptoms.
She has weakness in her muscles & becomes tired quickly & can barely walk for any lenght of time. She has pain in her legs and arms. She can barely use her arms.
Also has restless leg syndrome, at night the feelings of needing to get up and move are accompanied by pain. - she takes meds for this.
Her skin has become fragile. She gets bruises for no reason. She got a horrible cut from a paper bag.
Now, lately she has not been eating. Her stomach has been very sick, and when she eats (or doesn't eat) she is in the bathroom. She is sick like this all day long and has been for a few months now. Her doctors don't know what the cause is. She has lost over 30 lbs in about 2 months time.
Has anyone heard of these symptoms? I'm afraid my mother won't be with me much longer if we don't get to the bottom of this.
Please help! Thank
Answers: If you can afford it, why not ask around and find a naturopathic physician. If the traditional doctors aren't helping, and have their hands up in the air, why not give a gentler method a try?
Naturopathic physicians are well-trained, and the accredited programs are a very rigorous program, resulting in an ND rather than an MD degree.
The main difference is that ND's work more with the body and natural healing methods. Sometimes, from what I've seen, this is just what the body needs. Contrary to the assertions of some, it's not at all quackery. The symptoms you are describing could be the result of a prolonged food toxicity or sensitivity.
I agree with Deidre, perhaps it's time to look elsewhere. Conventional methods haven't work, and the medicine usually only addresses the symptoms, not the problem. If it were me, I'd take her to see a naturopath. I have heard of treatments that have cured patients with cancer. At this point, what have you go to lose?
How many doctors has seen her? You can always get a second opinion. Bruises and the fragile skin are not classic symptoms of MS. The weight loss and the stomach problems are not either. Has she been scanned for cancer? HIV?
I would start seeking other doctors opinions if you can. Checked for a type of poisoning like arsenic or something like that? It's rare to get that kind of accidental poisoning but possible. Lyme disease also can cause this.
you should seek a second opinion and set out to ask for results from your current doctor. she sounds like she suffering from a multitude of problems. it just might turn out to not be the ms your looking for. check all meds to make sure your not causing the stomach upset . please don't delay in helping mom... you didn't say how old mom was??? before you go to any doctor buy a note book to write down all your questions and to jot down notes or the answers to your questions. good luck
Not sure about the MS diagnosis sounds like lots of things really i.e. fibromyalgia.
But she really needs to get another doctors opinion and have lots of tests until they get to the bottom of it.
Don't wait take her to hospital and make sure she gets the attention she needs.
