Worsening pain in middle to lower tibia??
Question: I posted this yesterday but with inaccurate information. I currently for the past few months have been having pain in my Tibia it seems. The pain is deep and very localized. First I thought it was a bruise but I realized there was no visible bruise and plus the pain has got worse. Mostly when I bump it right, it hurts very bad. Usually I dont notice it much walking around. However the past few weeks to month the pain has been increasing. Its still in one spot but I feel it sometimes just sitting still or even aches when I am walking. Pressing the area causes the pain to feel worse. Any ideas? I am 17 year old male btw. FYI: not involved in any sports right now either. Just trying to get more opinions on what people think. Thanks!
Answers: My feeling is that is could be a stress fracture but the only way to really find out is to go to the doctor. Boys can keep growing right up until they are about 18 at the latest 19. You did not say how tall you are. Even though you do not play sports, you could have injured it at work or doing something really physical. Unfortunately, there is really nothing that can be done for a stress fracture. To alleviate the symptoms try ice (no longer than 10-15 min at a time), resting it, elevating it above your heart when you can and compression. In other words, try wrapping it with an ace bandage. Do not wrap it too tight. Wear some really good shoes like New Balance. Lastly, try some aleve or motrin. Those are good anti-inflammatory drugs and great pain relievers. Do not take more than directed but try taking every 6 hours for a while, even if you have to wake yourself up in the night. Always take with food or milk. If this does not do it for you please go see an orthopedic doc. Good luck to you.
