Is brusing and purple dots continue to come and go due to the fact i was diagnosed with itp??
Question: Is this brusing and purple dots normal with itp?
Will these bruises and purple dots appear throughout my diagnosis with itp?
Answers: The bruising and purple dots ( ecchymoses and petechiae ) that happen with ITP ( Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura ) are the results of excess bleeding that results from the low platelet count that is the end result of the condition known as ITP.
The platelets are little fragments blood cells that are responsible for stopping bleeding. Whenever there is trauma or pressure on a blood vessel, the little platelets gather at the site to plug the leak. When the platelet count falls too low, there are not enough of them to stop the bleeding, so bruises result from trauma and the little dots results from little capillary leaks.
When the treatment for ITP allows the platelet count to come up to normal, the bruises and dots will no longer form, and the ones that are already there will resolve.
