Cluster headaches??
Question: I suffer from cluster headaches every 15 months. The pain is unbearable, as I'm sure those of you who suffer from them know. I've tried every medication under the sun - Topomax, Prednisone, Lithium, Verapamil, DHE, pure oxygen - I could go on and on. Each time, the cocktail that works changes. I have a neurologist (though I'm not pleased with him), so I'm not asking about a diagnosis or medication suggestions.
My question is, how long will these last? Will I have these for the rest of my life. They have severaly affected my ability to have a normal life, to be a wife and mother. And I'm afraid that as I get older, my body may not be able to withstand the pain, or the constant stream of medications that are continuoulsy being pumped into me. I have sometimes gotten to the point where I've taken 14 pills a day for these.
Does anyone know if these go away with age? If so, how old?
Answers: A fellow clusterhead here sad to hear the pain your going through. The chances are yu will find that they reduce regularity with age. Im 38 at the moment at am in the peak but my Dad gets them and as he is in his early 70's he goes 5 to 7 years between bouts so there is light at the end of te tunnel. I know ehre you come from as I am the sole wage earner for my family blah blah.... (3 pre school kids) and it does scare the crape outa me. Its important to know yur not alone .... there many of us other freaks out there. I belong to the uk self support group www.ouchuk.org I dont know where your from but this is a VERY freindly and alot of really nice people will answer ANY queeries, give you a cuddle when you feel down and the odd nudge when you need that as well. Also got any questions mail me its important we stick together.

Try Chiropractic. Sometimes there is a sympathetic response happening and getting that fixed can help. The top 3 chief complaints people visit a Chiropractor with are back pain, neck pain and headaches. It's worth a shot.
Sorry to hear about your headaches. I had these for about a week because my lymph nodes swelled up. The doctor told me to get Imitrex, but the headaches disappeared before I got it. Have you tried alternative medicines?
As for how long it might last, if there is no underlying condition, it's hard to say. It could disappear at any time, maybe, or never. If there is something you can take for the pain, that might help. But really, consider alternative medicine.
If you havent yet tried Imitrex, that's what worked for me. I took the tablets, but I hear that the nasal spray works the fastest.
Also, it might be an imbalance of hormones. I went on the Depo shot every three months and I havent got another one. My sister has hormone based cluster headaches too, and the birth control pill keeps hers under wraps too.
Good luck, I know exactly what you're going through.
