AM I STILL GOING TO GROW? will the SpineCor brace work for me??

Question: I want to get it for my scoliosis but if my insurance doesnt cover it then i dont think i can get it if it wont work.

I am 13 years old. Well 14 verry soon this month :]

About... 2/3 months ago they said i have two curves of 38 degrees. 3 months before that i had two curves top was 34, bottom was 37.

I am about 5 7. My moms 5 6 dads about 5 8. I started my period about ... 5/6 months ago but i dont get it monthly.

So AM I STILL GROWING? I dont want to NOW so it doesnt get worse but if i get the brace then i do want to grow.

Also, if you have it did your insurance cover it? If yes what kind do you have?
Answers: I have heard good things about the brace
I do not live in your country so I do not know what is available
but sometimes up here anyways clubs like the lions clubs and other March of dimes (if it is where you are) will help with costs of medical equipment.
while most girls stop growing at your age I know I still grew until I was 17 although it was not much.
Even if you are not growing any more a brace can stop your back from curving more.
I just looked after a woman with a 90 degree curve in her spine and she is in her 80's so it can happen as an adult.
if someone can talked to your insurance company and explain that these braces do help and surgery is much more expensive. If not start phoning those clubs I do not know if they do it where you are but it is worth a shot.

And as for the brace a friend of mine wore a brace for 10 years and she got sick of it so she would now ware it any more with in 3 years she had to have the rods put in her back so I know first hand that the braces do work.
If your back is sore I do know some things that can help (not meds' ) with the pain if you are interested either you are your parents can email me.
I hope this helps
im 14 years old and i had to wear a brace as well when i was 11..my insurance did cover for it but im not sure what kind i had SORRY!..
i dont think my curve is completely gone but i doubt
you will grow taller then that..thats above the average height of a girl your age. but from what I've heard its not true that girls stop growing when they menstruate {get their period} ...girls usually stop growing at the age of 17 which is when puberty normally ends. GOOD LUCK AND i HOPE i'VE HELPED ATLEAST A LiTTLE BiT :)
I'll clear up some things for you lol...

first your growth. Generally, girls get their second growth spurt about 2 years prior to onset of menses. After menses starts, the growth rate slows, but does not stop. However, this is not a very accurate way to measure someone's potential for growth. There are many instances where girls do grow quite a bit after menses has started. Generally, growth is supposed to stop about 2 years after the onset of menses. But not in every case. There are many exceptions...
More accurate way of measuring would be radiologic study. Risser Sign can tell you how mature your bones are and Risser 5 would mean complete fusion and bones won't be able to grow anymore.

As far as whether spinecor can help you. Well, with 1.5 year to go with growth (generally...could be more or less) and you being only 7 degrees away from surgical case (45 degrees)...and measurements having 5 degree margin of error..so you could be anywhere from 33-43 on the lumbar...you are way to close to surgical zone to not brace...especially when it's still progressing...

Spinecor should at least slow or stop the progression so that it doesn't become surgical case. Their success rate is 96% according to the new study. Majority of patients do receive some stable correction. I think if you can cut down even 10 degrees, it'd do wonders cosmetically...

As far as insurance coverage goes, only company that I know of that does not cover for sure is Aetna. It's a wonder how they could call it experimental even after all the positive studies and successes. Anyway, most insurances do cover. CPT code for the brace is L1005. Call your insurance company and ask if it would be covered. If it's not, some doctors should have financing options available to make it affordable.
