I have astigmatism and worsening eyesight. Will getting glasses now slow the worsening of sight??
Question: My eyesight is not bad enough that I feel I need glasses but of course I want to do anything I can to ensure it does not get worse, if possible. It seems to get worse all the time. Will getting glasses slow the progression or not? Thanks
Answers: glasses have no effect good or bad on the eye ( incorrect lenses can strain the muscles controlling the eye )
No. I started wearing glasses when I was 13 and the only thing that's ever been successful at keeping my prescription in check is RGP (rigid gas permeable) or HARD contact lenses. The only drawback for those hard contacts is that it takes a long time to get used to them because it's a hard piece of plastic that you're wearing on your eyes.
yes it will...I have an asitgmatism in both eyes....if you're not using the corrective lenses your eyes will progressively get worse rapidly!
My glasses have helped immensely with headaches...drowsiness...and night driving! I can see the signs!
You should see an eye doctor. They will be able to evaluate the health of your eyes and tell you whats best.
Sorry, it only gets worse with time. The key is to get regular eye exams (yearly) and to wear the proper prescriptions provided by your optometrist. I have heard that laser vision can be good...but I won't go until my eyes are really bad.
Going without glasses when you need them can make your eyesight worse. I refused to wear glasses in high school (when I didn't think I needed them), and my eyesight got much worse. My eye doctor confirmed that my eyes got worse more quickly because I did not wear the glasses when I first needed them.
All I can do is give you my experience. I have been wearing glasses since I was 8 years old. I am now 30. Since I started wearing glasses, everytime I went to the optician to get a check up , my prescription got worst, ie, my eyesight had worsen.
However, this stopped about 5years now.
I recently start doing eye exercises to try and improve my eyesight. I created a blog where I record my progress with the exercises.
Other people (who are also doing eye exercises) also post comments about their experiences as well. You can check it out at: http://improvingmyeyesight.com/blog
