Bookbags....and scoliosis??
Question: i know that bookbags DON'T CAUSE scoliosis
but can they worsen ur degree if u alredi have scoliosis?
Answers: I'm not sure, I have scoliosis and I don't take any chances. I have a set of books at home and at school. My doctor said it would be best if I had two sets of books. I had to have a doctors not and they gave me and extra set.
Yes, it can worsen your pain by putting undue strain on your back muscles. Do some back building exercises. This will strengthen 'erector spinae', the muscles at your back. It can definitely worsen your scoliosis, by aggravating your already asymmetric vertebral column, by mechanical torque.
It is unlikely to worsen yoru scoliosis by carrying a heavy bookbag. Scoliosis is caused by abnormal growth of the vertebrae or sometimes by having extra vertebrae. A heavy bookbag can however cause back pain by adding stress to your back unevenly.
I hope this helps.
The thought was that heavy bookbags wouldn't effect the scoliosis in the past...but that's changed..
recent studies indicate muscle tones have a lot to do with development of scoliosis. Initial cause may be genetic and hormonal..but after the initial tilt, it's the loading which keeps the scoliosis progressing...
Heavy backpack will have impact on scoliosis....
i don't know about scoliosis, but there is a condition called back packer's syndrome. it is where students only wear one strap on their shoulders causing so much pressure on the shoulder that the blood vessels are squeezed shut. i don't know the long term effects but i would suggest using both straps when carrying a heavy backpack.
