Back brace for Scoliosis??

Question: Hello, i'm a teen girl with Scoliosis. So i've had a back brace since last June or so, and i'm STILL not wearing it as much as i'm supposed to. I'm supposed to wear it 18 hours a day, but i only get around to wearing it around 14. I get up at 6:45, don't wear it (taking a shower, eating, etc.) and put it on at around 6 at night. I know i could be wearing it more, but i can't wear it when i eat, or my stomach will get sick (and i'll have to....you know...) and i don't want that. I have other activities i'm involved in too (dance and guitar) so that takes about an hour away too. Could my back get worse? Could i have to wear it 24/7??? Help??
Answers: Yes, your back could get worse.

If you can't function when wearing your brace, something is wrong. If it was me, I'd go to my scoliosis specialist (or wherever the brace was made) and get the fit checked out.

The brace isn't supposed to fix your curve. Bracing is supposed to keep your curve from getting worse during your growth spurt (which is when curves most likely will increase). By not wearing your brace as directed, you're not letting the brace work. Therefore, your curve has a greater chance of getting worse.
You should be seeing your orthopeadic doctor for regular follow ups. I doubt it will get any worse now that it is getting treated. Can you figure out a way to sit differently when you eat so you can wear it then. There are different degrees of scoliosis and new ways of treating it. If you started with just a back brace that should be all you will have to do. Do your best to wear it as much as you can and don't get discouraged.
