Bad Back but need exercise to trim stomach; have scoliosis cant walk; severe pain with much movement; HELP???
Answers: I'm no expert, but I'll provide you with some informational links. Your best bet might be to go see your doctor and ask them which techniques would be less painful for you.
Also, the last link is a support forum for individuals with scoliosis - Maybe some of them can answer your question better than the rest of us :) Remember, no one is perfect.. Perfection doesn't exist.

EVERYONE has a good set of abs under the layer of fat that hides them. Super clean eating is the only thing that will bring them out. You have to eat clean to get your body fat % down enough to see them.

I have scoliosis and chronic low back pain. I am no longer able to do what I once could as far as duration and difficulty of an activity. What can I do?
Scoliosis may or may not be a factor in your pain problem. Individuals often live with a reasonably pronounced curvature without significant symptoms. Often patients manage pain through a program of stretching and strengthening the available muscles. Individuals without scoliosis usually deal with pain in the same way.
You may decide to visit a physiatrist (medical specialist in physical medicine) who could provide a comprehensive exam. The results of that exam could be reviewed to provide specific medical and physical treatment options for you. Maintaining a wellness approach to your back programs can yield great dividends as you grow older with scoliosis.
are you able to lay flat on your back? try putting something on your stomach, like a book, push the book up with your muscles, then pull it back down. If you can't lay flat, you can still push out your belly button, then try to pull it back toward the spine. Repeat as many times as you can, then rest and do more later. Try getting more repititions every day.
The only way to Fix Scoliosis is to have major surgery and afterwords wear a Back brace for 2 months. No exersize. Just diet.
you should just rest if you have a bad back you dont want to do more damage
1 word... liposuction.
Try an exercise ball and do crunches that way. You can even go to somewhere like Wal-Mart and buy one of those large plastic balls that kids play with. Just put your legs up on it and do crunches. I bought one at my chiropractor's office and it works great. Will also be a good toy when my now 3 month old son is big enough to play with it.
Can you lay down on your bed and lay a wrist weights or ankle weight across your belly? I have wrist weights that are 2lbs and 5lbs ankle weights. They are made of a soft, stretchy neoprene fabric with Velcro enclosure.
As you lay on your bed lay a weight across your belly and use your stomach muscle to lift the weight up and down.
Laying on your bed would reduce stress on your back I think.
If you have a bad back, you should try yoga. There are specific exercises that can relieve pain from scoliosis by lengthening your spine and de-rotating your curve. I have scoliosis myself and yoga is one type of exercise that has helped me.
