I have scoliosis intrumentation in my back (44yrs). I CAN NOT bend, AT ALL. Exercises for losing belly fat??

Question: I bend my ENTIRE torso - FROM MY HIPS - imagine wearing an invisible body cast. How do I exercise to work off my belly fat. I'm doing a good eating and health program, but just need to find someone who can make suggestions.
There is NO way for me to do a sit up, waist twist, side bend, that sort of thing. ANY IDEAS???
I do my 'exercise' on my Nodric Track, which helped me lose 40 pounds, but still have 'the bulge'. I look like I'm 5 months pregnant!
I'd really appreciate any thoughts on the matter.
Answers: You're already doing it. Your body metabolizes fat hormonally not geographically. That means you must do the exercise that releases the right hormones to release fat from your belly to be used as fuel in your muscles. This has nothing to do with working the muscles which are nearby the fat stores you wish to lose. Common aerobic exercises like running, biking, swimming, stair-master, or elipitical machines are the best way to lose the fat. Nordic Track works, too. To speed up the fat loss, try mixing in some short bursts of high intensity effort into your workouts. For example, do 45 min on the Nordic Track at a comfortably difficult pace and spend 1 minute out of every 10 working hard enough that you have to slow down after that minute. This will accelerate your metabolism for, some sources say, 9 to 13 hours after your workout.

As far as losing the bulge, you can still exercise your abdominal muscles without bending. Try standing with good posture and pull your belly button toward your spine while flexing your abs. Imagine you have a six pack any you're trying to show it off. Hold it for 10 to 15 seconds and repeat. Also try getting in a push-up position on the floor with your elbows as support rather than your hands. Flex your abs and hold the same as before. You can do this exercise on one arm with your chest facing a wall to hit the oblique (side) muscles as well. (do both sides) Once this is easy, do it for longer, or try putting something round (like a basketball) under your feet to force you to flex the abs to balance. This will create tone and give shape to your belly if you do it everyday.
how about leg lifts. There are a few moderations.First lay on your back with legs straight up a gently lift your use your lower abdominals to lift your buttocks off the ground and return. Another is to lift your neck off the ground like u r trying to push your nose to the ceiling keep your spine straight contract your abs and release. And once you are comfortable with that try lifting your legs as you contract your abs. hope this helps. Those are some that I do regularly, if i think of anymore I will let you know

Try pulling your navel into your spine--as if your were pulling your stomach in away from a burning flame . This will engage your core muscles--the stomach muscles that wrap around the entire abdominal area. Once you engage those muscles, try to keep them drawn in. This will strengthen your back, too.

This will be very hard at first, especially if those muscles have not been used in a while. However, with time, you will be able to retrain the muscle memory, and they will begin to feel comfortable pulled in. BTW--your internal organs will be better supported, too, and bodily functions will run smoother!

As always, consult a health care professional before beginning any exercise program, especially with special health concerns.

Good luck.
try electro muscle stimulation, it's a belt that you wear and sends electric current to your stomach muscles. I'm not sure of any brand names, but hope this helps.
